The Geophagus Redhead Tapajos is a truely stunning fish when fully matured. They are a large cichlid that requires plenty of space. They are a hardy fish and relatively easy to care for however they can be fiercely territorial and will eat small fish.
Ideally they do not want to be in a system with fine sand of pebbles as they can damage their gills whilst feeding. Larger rocks and pebbles are advised.
Adult Length:20-25cm
Temperature Range 22 - 27°C
pH Range: 6.5-7.8
Special Requirements: Fairly easy to keep.
Tanks Mates: They are territorial and will eat smaller fish or invertebrates that they can swallow. The can be kept with other fish of the same temperement, ideally larger so they won't be a bully.
Feeding: . The geophagus like to sift feed, meaning they will take large mouthfuls of debris and pick out the tastey bits of food. Ideally fed on pellets but can and will attack smaller fish species so be warned!
