The Columbian Tetra is somewhat larger that most tetras and can be a little more aggressive to smaller tanks mates and may nip fish with larger fins. As with other tetras, they like to live in a school of 6 or more and when in a school, they will behave better.  They can be an ideal tetra for a larger community tank as they are pretty tolerant to more boisterous tank mates.

Species – Columbian Tetra – Hyphessobrycon colombianus

Current Size – 2.5cm - 3cm

Adult Length – 6cm

Temperature Range – 24 - 27 °C

pH Range – 6.0 – 7.5

Tanks Mates and Compatibility - Generally peaceful making it an ideal resident of the well-researched community aquarium.

It’s perhaps best-maintained alongside similarly-sized characids and relatives, smaller callichthyid or loricariid catfishes and non-predatory, medium-sized cichlids.

Feeding – In the aquarium it’s easily-fed but the best condition and colours offer regular meals of small live and frozen foods such as bloodworm, Daphnia, and Artemia alongside good quality dried flakes and granules, at least some of which should include additional plant or algal content.
