Oscars are amongst the larger of the South American Cichlids and they live for 8 to 12 years if cared for properly. They are very popular with many aquarists due to their individual personalities and the way that they will interact with their owners.
Adult Length: 30-35cm
Temperature Range: 23 to 27°C
pH Range: 6.0 – 7.5
Special Requirements: Although easy to keep, Oscars are messy and grow fast. Quality filtration is a must and a minimum of 100 litres per Oscar is necessary to house adult fish.
Tanks Mates: Oscars are best kept on their own although they will share tank space with other large American Cichlids providing they are not too aggressive or passive. They will live happily with most non-aggressive bottom feeder and larger Algae Eaters.
Feeding: Oscars are mainly carnivores so they require a quality high-protein diet. They will eat virtually anything and love the majority of frozen food available as well as specialist pellets.
